Discipleship
Who is a disciple???
A leaner, a disciplined one, a follower of Christ.
Practically it is easy to study discipleship, there are millions books on the subject but to become a disciple it is a different reality. We find more books on disciple ship than we do disciples, we can only become disciples as we focus and determine in our hearts to become more like Christ. studying discipleship is helpful, if only we have made up our minds to become one. It will take disciples to fulfill the mind and the will of Christ in this generation. Not those who have read books, or been in seminars but those who look like him in word and acts. Apostle Paul who became more like Jesus, decided at the end of his life to know Christ, meaning he invested his life becoming like Christ, once he became like him it was easy to have a certificate. I always wonder where is my discipleship certificate I had one!!! The pursuit should be a commitment to become more like Christ as we study and learn.
Philippians 3:10
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.
Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
We had received a mandate from the Lord to go, since that day Jesus never say to come back but rather He promised that He is coming back. Meanwhile while waiting for His return we are called to do His work which is to bring all to the kingdom.
Why, all??
2 Peter 3:9
….not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance
Jesus asked His disciples to make disciples, in other word disciples beget disciples. If we aren’t yet what we preach then those to whom we are ministering have no substance to rely on, until what we preach become reality in us then it wouldn’t make any impact. Jesus wants us to become, then we can make. For the great commission to become possible disciples have to do the job, it sound easy but we have also to represent Christ in His fullness not only with word but power, wisdom, love and humility.
How do we become more like Him?
1. Spend time with Him through the word
2 Corinthians 3:18
And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.
The purpose of studying His word isn’t so we can have head knowledge but rather we can know what he wants, rely on his Spirit to manifest the life of Christ in us and through us.
2. when we worship
Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the.
God is seeking for worshipper as we worship Him, He changes into the image of His dear son.
3. Be still
Psalms 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
When we exalt God He draws us to him and when we are drawn to Him He changes us from glory to glory.
God bless you as you become more like Him
